Importance of Quran Recitation

Posted On: 12/8/2011

The Holy Qur’an is the Greatest Living Miracle that Allah has blessed us with. It comprises the ultimate and undeniable proof for mankind that Allah Ta’ala does indeed exist; and complements the fact that he has sent His most beloved and final messenger as a teacher and guide for each and every person until the Day of Judgement.

Regular Qur’an Recitation ought to be part and parcel of the lives of every Muslim. The virtues attached to reciting the Noble Qur’an are almost countless, and rewards associated with it, as transmitted to us through the sayings of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) will only be fully realised when we are awakened in the hereafter.

As with all other aspects of our dynamic Deen, rewards and benefits of ‘Aamale Saalihaa’ or Virtuous Deeds, are not entirely limited to the Aakhirah. Indeed a Muslim’s life can be completely translated into Deen simply by observing the commandments of Allah and following the noble teachings of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him).

So even though this life may be a mere vehicle to the next, and a transitory stage to the real life that is to come, a Muslim is able to enjoy tremendous growth and benefit just by doing good actions. Virtually every good action that a Muslim observes can be said to provide direct and immediate worldly benefits that are distinct from the everlasting rewards of the Aakhirah.

Take the use of the Miswaak for example which is a great Sunnah of our Nabi Muhammad (Allah’s Peace and Blessings Be Upon him). Enriched eyesight, improved memory, sparkling teeth and healthy gums - are but just a few of the many earthly benefits that a person can achieve just by bringing alive this Sunnah.

The promises of Peace and Tranquillity that Allah has guaranteed for His obedient servants are easily attainable, and they make up the ultimate prize that no amount of wealth in this world can ever buy.

Allah Ta’ala has been so kind to us, that in this short life He has made available to us millions of avenues by which we can gain his pleasure and attain close proximity to Him. All the Scholars of Islam are unanimous in this belief that Recitation of the Qur’an is that particular virtuous action that affords its Reciter one the easiest and quickest ways of drawing close to his or her Creator.

There are so many Ahaadeeth expounding the rewards and benefits of reciting the Holy Qur’an. We will just remember one here for purposes of mutual encouragement.

The intercession of the Qur’an Kareem.

Hadhrat Abu Amamata Bahili (Radhiallahu Anhu) says that he heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) say that, “Recite the Qur’an Kareem because on the Day of Qiyaamah it will intercede for its reciters.” – Narrated by Muslim

No doubt the Qur’an Kareem will intercede for those who recite it. It is thus wise to become habitual in reciting the Qur’an. Make Qur’an recitation a daily practice and act upon its commands. Remember that whoever the Qur’an intercedes for, Allah will not reject its intercession.

May Allah make us always a means of delivering the beautiful truth and perfect message of our Deen. Aameen
